I know a lot of writers say this, but I truly always wanted to be a writer. As soon as I could hold a pen I was scribbling away, telling stories in pictures to begin with and then moving on to words once I had mastered a few.
I collected endless notebooks (mainly ones with Snoopy on) and scribbled all sorts of nonsense in them: poems, short stories, ideas and thoughts that had been going round my head all day. My grandpa used to give me huge desk diaries which he had finished with, and I used them to write in, too. The photo on the left is taken from my grandma's family album where she kept some of my early efforts at story writing! The pictures were done when I was two and a half. The stories below came later.
My love of notebooks has not faded over the years, and I still have a pile of them by my bed. I also carry one around with me wherever I go in case I get an idea. If I don't write something down immediately, I forget it!
I was a big fan of PUFFIN POST when I was younger. I still have all the magazines! It was a great way of finding out more about my favourite authors, such as Roald Dahl and Joan Aiken.
